San Sebastian Winery - St. Augustine, Florida

St. Augustine is a great place to stay for a long weekend. The city is full of history and is both great for couples and families. One highlight is the San Sebastian Winery! If you have never tasted a wine made with muscadine grapes then you have to visit and take the wine tasting tour. On our recent trip we tried five wines, a sherry and a port. All of them are quite sweet which is not the type of wine we like but it was a worthwhile expeience to learn about the wines and how they are made. The only one that I would recommend is the Castillo Red which is a full bodied wine with a hint of spice. You can order the wine by going to the website at www.sansebastionwinery.com

Alamos - The Wines of Catena

We find this wine in our local health food store and love both the Malbec and the Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Cab is rich in color, a dark purple, and smells of ripe fruit, spice and a touch of tobacco.  Once in the mouth a faint espresso bean shows up and BAM! It is aged in French and American oak and so far goes great with just about anything.

The Malbec also has a great color and if you like Malbec this is a great wine to try.  Fruit, chocolate, floral notesand just a bit of toast! Yummy!  This wine is also aged in French and American oak.

These two are our go-to wines to bring to a dinner party!

Purple Cowboy Tenacious Red

Paul and I tried this wine on a lark because of the name and WOW! It is a great red wine! The tasting notes on the fact sheet for this wine promote is as a teeth-staining dark red wine with hints of purple, vibrant aromas of crushed red berries, cherries, cola and cinnamon.  We bought our bottle at our local Target Super Store and highly recommend this wine the next time you serve BBQ!

2007 · Vineyard Block Estate · Block 613 · Cabernet Sauvignon · Yountville · Napa Valley, CA

Paul and I were looking for a new wine to try and Block 613 was suggested.  We were not sure what to expect and were very pleasantly surprised by how wonderful this wine was when we got home.

This Cab is thick and meaty with berry and cherry flavors and just a splash of chocolate.  I will definitely buy this wine again!

d'Arenberg The Love Grass Shiraz 2004 - McLaren Vale, Australia

We bought this wine because I loved the name and love wine from Australia!  When I opened it I was not so sure but I let it decant and then WOW!  The flavors just exploded!  It has a rich dark color, plenty of fruit and a nice smokey peppery character that just makes my mouth water.

I liked it so much I had to find out why they named it "Love Grass" and the story made me like the wine even more.  Lovegrass is a wild grass that grows in the vineyards.  The flowers are sticky and they end up covering the socks of the vineyard workers as well as the winery dog's coat.  The dog's name is Coco.  Since this wine tends to linger much like the flowers, the family decided to name the wine after the grass.  That made me smile.

2007 Dancing Bull Zinfandel

While there is nothing spectacular about this wine, it is great for a night when you want to throw a couple of steaks on the grill, kick back and just enjoy the evening.

We tried this after spying it at our local Publix for $8.99 a bottle. Well worth the eight bucks and since some of the grapes are from Lodi you just can't help singing "stuck in Lodi again..." while your drinking it. :)

Louis Jadot Beaujolais-Villages - Our New Favorite Wine

Paul and I loved this wine! We picked it up completely on a whim walking through Walmart of all places! This was just a delicious and easy wine to drink. No need to pair it with food to bring it out - it works well all buy itself. Since first tasting this wine we have seen it in many different stores in our area and always for under $12.

Mirassou - California Sauvignon Blanc

We picked up this wine in the clearance section of our local health food store. I think we paid $5 for the bottle and so when we opened it that night we really weren't expecting to be impressed.

Much to our surprise this wine was really, really good! We had it with a nice light dinner and enjoyed it so much that we went back to the health food store the next day to buy more.

If you like Sauvignon Blanc this is a great one to try even i you pay full price. :)

Montecillo Crianza 2005

We stumbled upon this wine totally by accident. A store near us was clearing out their inventory and had this wine on the discount table so we decided to try it with dinner that night. We loved it!!! So much so that the next day we went back and bought their last twelve bottles.

This is a great wine to enjoy with sausage if you are having appetizers for dinner like we do on a regular basis. My in-laws liked it too!

We found this at Publix for less than eight bucks a bottle and I have seen it online for as little as $11.99.
